Resumen
Los deportes electrónicos o eSports son el resultado de la profesionalización de los videojuegos online competitivos. El mercado de los deportes electrónicos está creciendo y cada vez amplía más sus límites geográficos gracias a que la experiencia de usuario es posible a través de internet, así como a la creciente participación de público femenino. Los videojuegos competitivos tradicionalmente han sido de mayor gusto en hombres que en mujeres. Sin embargo, en la actual era digital donde es más fácil encontrar espacios comunes a través de la red, así como formas de socializar e interactuar, se observa una creciente participación de público femenino, no sólo en el entorno virtual competitivo y colaborativo, sino también en los espacios físicos donde se generan eventos con base en los juegos online. Las razones por las cuales la cantidad de videojugadoras es cada vez mayor se han explorado en otras regiones, pero hay poca información al respecto en la zona de Latinoamérica; es más, hay poca información en general del consumidor del mercado emergente de videojugadores online. El propósito de este estudio es explorar las motivaciones de la mujeres jóvenes para hacer parte de la comunidad gamer online.
