Resumen

La industria de flores en Colombia es reconocida en todo el mundo. Colombia es el segundo exportador mundial después de Holanda y el primer exportador de claveles en el mundo. La floricultura colombiana es un negocio de exportación y el 95% de la producción se vende en el extranjero. La mayoría de las plantaciones se encuentran en la sabana de Bogotá debido a su ubicación geográfica estratégica y la disponibilidad de agua. Sin embargo, esta no es una industria limpia. Escándalos ambientales e informes de prensa negativos son parte de la historia del sector. Desde 1996 los productores y la asociación de la industria - Asocolflores- han puesto en marcha estrategias ambientales basadas principalmente en el programa FlorverdeTM. Como resultado, las estrategias ambientales basadas ​​en la mejora continua de la eficacia operativa y nuevas oportunidades de mercado han atraído a los productores colombianos. Sin embargo, estas estrategias no son suficientes para garantizar el sector y la resistencia de las empresas. Hoy en día los conflictos ambientales son evidentes entre la producción de flores y el ecosistema de la sabana de Bogotá, amenazando el futuro de esta industria en Colombia.
